Fact – A man has a 1 in 4 chance of suffering a critical illness before retirement age. For a woman, it’s 1 in 5.

The Mortgage Advice Network’s fact – In short, for a male and female couple, there’s a 45% chance of cancer, heart attack or critical illness before retirement. That’s almost fifty/fifty and proves the need for protection.



Fact – People are 19 times more likely to be off work for more than 6 months due to illness or injury than they are to die before the age of 65.

The Mortgage Advice Network’s fact – 4 out of 5 people with mortgages have life insurance, but only 1 in 8 have income protection. As you are 19 times more likely to need the income protection, you need to give it some serious consideration.



Fact – During the first half of 2006 there were 8,140 repossessions which rose to 8,860 in the latter half. This represented a 65% increase on the previous year.

Fact – 86% of repossessions were caused by a drop in income. The main causes of this are loss of employment, the death of a main bread winner, and illness or injury.
